Location of historical records

County Council records
The records of Inverness County Council and its predecessors are held by Highland Council Archives, but some educational and civil parish records for the Western Isles are held by Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council) Library Service.

County Constabulary records
The records of Inverness County Constabulary are held by Highland Council Archives.

Medical Officer of Health Reports
Annual reports for the Medical Officer of Health for the county of Inverness are held by the National Archives of Scotland for the period 1891-1972, the Highland Council Archive (for 1948-1971). Another set of Medical Officer of Health reports (for 1906-1912, 1951, 1961-1967, 1969, 1971) are held by Northern Health Services Archive, but kept in Inverness.

Valuation Rolls
Valuation rolls for Inverness County are held by the National Archives of Scotland for the period 1855 to 1989, and by the Highland Council Archive for the period 1868 to 1989.

Vehicle Licensing records
Records for Inverness County Vehicle Licensing Authority are held partly by Highland Council Archives and partly by the Kithead Trust, Droitwich Spa (for further details see the Knowledge Base entry on Vehicle Licensing).
