Location of historical records

County Council records
The records of Ayr County Council and its predecessors are held by Ayrshire Archives.

County Constabulary records
Some staffing and operational records of Ayr County Constabulary are among the records of Strathclyde Police, held by Glasgow City Archives, but minute books of the Ayrshire Police Committee and successor committees, 1841-57, and 1888-1930 are held by Ayrshire Archives.

Valuation Rolls
Assessors’ rolls for the County of Ayr (excluding many burghs until 1930) for the period 1855-1989 are held by the National Archives of Scotland, and for the period 1892-1989 by Ayrshire Archives.

Medical Officer of Health Reports
Annual reports of the Medical Officer of Health for the County of Ayr are held, for the period 1891-1972, by the National Archives of Scotland, and, for the period 1950-1972, by Ayrshire Archives (ATD76/1).

Vehicle Licensing records
